The deputy of the "Fair Russia" Oleg Mikheev Duma introduced a bill to impose criminal liability for insulting the memory of the Great Patriotic War with a maximum punishment of up to 7 years in prison, RIA Novosti reported the Duma apparatus Friday
The bill proposed to supplement the Criminal Code a new article providing for a fine of 500 thousand to one million rubles or imprisonment for up to 7 years for the actions, expressing obvious disrespect for society and insulting the memory of the events on the participants, about the veterans and victims of the Second World War committed at the locations of the monuments of the war, as well as burial sites of its members. For such criminal cases it is proposed to conduct a preliminary investigation in the form of inquiry.
As the author of the initiative, reduced sense of justice and a sense of patriotism in the society has reached a state in which the exploits of characters subjected to desecration of the Great Patriotic War.
"The fundamental change of the values broadcast by the media and the Internet, leads to the fact that respect for the deeds of the Great Patriotic War is erased from the memory of generations. And change comes denial, ridicule, humiliation, which is unacceptable in a country where the veneration of members, veterans and victims of war is a historical duty to society and the state ", - said Mikheyev.
As noted in the explanatory note to the bill, the prime examples of insult to the memory of World War II are the articles of some journalists, in social networks, there are whole groups, whose work is characterized by disrespect for veterans. "Against the background of the establishment of liability for insulting the feelings of believers in the media has become a reasonable question about the need to establish accountability for offending patriotic feelings of citizens, including the memory of the events on the participants, about the veterans and victims of the Great Patriotic War," - said the parliamentarian.
Harsh penalties proposed by the bill, MP considers justified for a country that has lost over the years of the Great Patriotic War, about 27 million people.
