In 1972, Werner Freund founded a sanctuary for wolves in Merzig, in the German province of Saarland, where wolves contains six different species found around the world. Among them are individuals living in Europe, Siberia, Canada, the Arctic and Mongolian regions. Most of them look quite similar, only the white arctic wolves are very different from all the others.
