For me, all these manipulations with a ruler had a very difficult thing, but to overestimate its role in the lives of students in mathematics in those years is not possible. Recently I heard from a woman that her husband had taught her to use a slide rule to make it calculates the number of loops during the knitting. "For me, today this thing is indispensable in the preparation of various proportions", - said the woman.



Sharpeners. I do not like sharpeners, as a child my dad taught genius sharpen pencils blade or a sharp knife. Sharpeners in those days was not enough, and they sharpened usually cruel.
