The accident occurred about 10 hours Monday local time (12:00 Moscow time) a few dozen kilometers to the south-east of Budapest. The accident killed four people and injured 26. Earlier it was reported that several of the wounded are in critical condition.
According to agency DPA, the accident occurred near the station Monorierdo, trains follow the direction of Budapest. One of the formulations followed by a higher speed and as a result in another hit.
Collision cause is not yet known. Law enforcement authorities in Hungary have already started an investigation into the accident. Minister of Transport of Hungary Pal Szabo (Pal Szabo) and executive director of the Hungarian railways Istvan Hayntsinger (Istvan Heinczinger) on Monday resigned in connection with the collision of trains, reports Reuters.
