Pitfalls of homeschooling

I am 40 years old I have two children (son 7 years, daughter 12). Graduated from the Russian Academy of music named. Gnessin state musical College in Moscow, worked in the orchestra of radio and television, British International School, music school. Rubinstein. Currently working as an art Director in a creative project and children involved. Live in Bulgaria.
My daughter was home schooled from 2nd to 5th grade. The reason is my dissatisfaction with the grammar school, which she attended 1 class and moving to another country. Daughter was happy with homeschooling, she believed in their strength and has made a great leap in knowledge. Starting in 5th grade, my daughter was studying in a private language school. Back to school she is also very happy, because the school is innovative with a very free and creative environment.
I want to tell you about the disadvantages of homeschooling, based on personal experience. Why only cons — the pros know and so, but on the cons, many hesitate to speak.
Cons homeschooling (subjective):
1. The illusion of success. My daughter has made great strides. So, partly, it SEEMED to me. Because I, though a teacher, but a specialist narrow profile. Efficiently to provide knowledge ON ALL the ITEMS mom (like me) can't. I failed in some subjects, although I am a perfectionist and have spent the day preparing for lessons. Therefore, homschooling good in elementary school. Further, experts are required. Video tutorials are also good, but only partly. Practical lessons require special equipment, inaccessible. Foreign languages also require a specialist. Pronunciation and so on is difficult to work out without communication with the media. Well, sports. Sorry, but I don't believe in training videos. And it is even dangerous. Next should be the coach. I say this as the mother of athletes. Often, the illusion of success is crashing after the child goes to school, and it turns out he PLACES much succeeded, and in some places — gaps.
2. Inuborochnaya attention to things. I thought so: my daughter has a talent for languages. We are emphasized. And in General, focused only on interesting. But everything in life can suddenly change, as it did my husband. He was a musician and believed that accurate science is CERTAINLY not useful. But as time passed, he left music and opened a business. And it required mathematics, physics, English, in which he in school did not succeed. So now I think you need exactly to study all of school subjects, so you do not lead the child, who suddenly find themselves the talent to something else, not what I saw my mother as a child.
3. Too the hothouse atmosphere. No bullies, rude teachers, time frames, inequitable assessments, diseases, high standards for physical training, dull tasks, intrigue, etc. at First it seems like fat plus. But when the child is again sent into society, it is only the mother to keep longer. And the child is unable to cope. My daughter, going into 5th grade in school, had a monstrous adaptation year: it was difficult to communicate with children, she was crying because of the comments, she did not have time to keep within the allotted test time. Although the school is wonderful. And she is an excellent student. Just from the greenhouse people came to the city.
4. The inability to realize their leadership abilities. My daughter is a leader and very active. Sitting at home, she failed to realize these qualities. In my room in silence at the table is physically impossible to do it. While in school, you can be a leader, to come up with something interesting, fun to play, to do joint projects, participate in discussions, and more.
5. The ability to behave in public. At home, all bold. But when other guys are very difficult to sing a song to artistically read the poem, read the report and so on. This is a very valuable experience in a stressful situation to be able to hold yourself, to control your thoughts, not to be lost and to be able to rein in stage horror. We don't know what will happen to our children in life. Shyness can be very hard to stop.
6. Boys. I believe that the girls (and I now talk about their daughter) should be able to communicate with the boys. To be able to look good, not to be capricious or vipers. In short, learn to communicate with the opposite sex. And love of the school has not been canceled. Sitting at home, hard to find. But this, in my opinion, an integral part of harmonious development.
7. The search itself. Yeah, find yourself at home. But at home children can learn a lot that they could learn outside the home. For example, my daughter, sitting at home, I would never have an interest in dance and German. And the school was interested.
8. Huge working parents. I deliberately came to homeschooling. Found the most interesting books, amounted to an hourly program, I found video courses, tests, etc. I thought — now the child will sit down and will yourself to do. But it didn't happen. I was standing like an ordinary school teacher over the soul, to explain, is emotionally told the material, motivated, inspired 6-8 hours a day. Neither of which my own work could not be considered. Of course, the daughter did much herself, but still requires a huge participation of parents. At least it was with us. Maybe other parents can work in parallel. In addition, the mother does not want to obey. I want to contradict or resist. For a relaxing and peaceful mother constantly fight and force very difficult. And the teacher — authority, argue with him rarely.
This is what I remembered. There are downsides and smaller. Let me remind you that I only wrote about what I thought the disadvantages. Emphasize that homeschooling huge number of advantages, which are discussed without me.
My conclusions. Homeschooling in the future will be seen as extreme and temporary measure. It is suitable for children with health problems, while moving, if the child is a professional athlete or musician, if there are no good schools.
