9 ways to show leadership generosity

In this article we will consider tips from the book "Ramban''s Ladder: A Meditation on Generosity and Why It is Necessary to Give" Julia Salomon.

The work is based on the teachings of Ramban, a doctor and philosopher who created the so-called staircase Rambanthat describes different forms of donation:

  • from the lowest — handing out money with reluctance,
  • to the highest, selfless help others to gain confidence in yourself.

We will transfer these tips in the sphere of leadership and make sure that they are applicable in the modern world.

When we think about generosity and the generosity that comes to mind is charity. In the context of leadership this means to give people something more precious. Psychologically, the effect of the donation money lasts a lot less than from praise, encouragement and to increase the sense of confidence the other person. Probably, it happens because these moments bring us back to childhood and what we were deprived of it.

Here are a few tips that will help you become the generous and magnanimous.

1. Allow the person to feel a sense of importance

Researcher Adele Lynn came to the conclusion that 55% of employees appreciate it when they are given to feel a sense of importance. Interestingly, it does not require financial cost, it's more little steps that need to consistently make employee feel important.

Let people know that they do important work and contribute to the development of the company.

2. Give the feedback, not criticism

If your leadership style is to criticize their employees, then it is time to change this way of thinking. Remember that criticism works, but carries three significant drawbacks:

  • the effect of adoption will be short-lived;
  • this will lead to the denial of self-love;
  • reduce motivation and enthusiasm.

Think about it, do you know how to motivate their team members most effectively. What exactly are you doing wrong? If you pick the right time and place? Do you know how to find words that will point the person in error and will not infringe on his pride?

3. Share

Your employees must see and understand what is happening in the company. Make sure that almost any time they can contact senior management or the boss.

Real, sincere loyalty occurs when your team feels that hide nothing from her and ask her opinion.

4. Give anonymously

True generosity is manifested in the moment when you are doing a good deed and remain in the shadows.

Think at least several people in your company who deserve help and quietly give them opportunities to do their job more effectively or to feel better.

5. Know when to forgive

Martin Luther king said: "the Old rule — an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind".

Vengeful thoughts affect not only your company but also to yourself.

A magnanimous person will not feel resentment, it's too small for her.

Whom you need to forgive? You need to let go?

6. Encourage and encourage

In promoting the need of all people. Look around and think about those in need at the moment and why. Some people had never received a promotion — neither from the teachers nor from the boss or from their parents.

This need lies so deeply that if you satisfy her, you will get immensely grateful to a man next to him.

7. Provide

One of the most priceless gifts is the provision of chance.

  • Is there someone in your company who deserves it?
  • Is there someone you need to give a second chance?
  • If so, what steps you should take in order to help to succeed to these people?
  • What hidden features have with your subordinates and how can they be solved?

8. Share knowledge and experience

Allow yourself to become a philanthropist who shares with other information. What knowledge, experience and level of expertise, you can empower people? What can be morally and mentally enriching your team?

Spend time on these points because they will pay off in the near future.

9. Maintain moral

For example, if your man is preparing for a public speech, support it. Tell us some stories about his first performances and with humor told about how it was.

Remember that moral support does not bear any practical information, it should just encourage someone. Even if you can't find anything but banal words, use them.published
