In a piece of amber was found the tail of the feathered dinosaur

While most paleontologists makes discoveries during excavations, Dr. Xing Lida (Lida Xing) from China University of Geosciences made an unusual discovery on the market in Myanmar. It was enclosed in a piece of amber tail feathered dinosaur, whose age is 99 million years.

The creature, which belonged to the tail, was a young Raptor and small predator from the theropod suborder. To this suborder were the tyrannosaurs, VelociRaptor, and it is from the theropod the birds. The discovery was published in the journal Current Biology and has confirmed what scientists have known for a long time: some species of dinosaurs were covered with feathers. Before was able to find only their prints, but the plumes were found for the first time.

Fragments of the tail is well preserved and has led to the conclusion that the tiny dinosaur likely was a cub, not fully grown, since its feathers grey-brown color reminiscent of the fuzz that covered the Chicks.

Apparently feathered dinosaur caught in the tar trap and was able to get out of it, losing part of the tail. In amber has also been found to ferrous iron. Perhaps it is the traces of blood from the damaged tail they have yet to perform.

With the help of computer tomography and other studies it has been found that a fragment consisted of 8 vertebrae, not connected among themselves (making it possible to assert that the tail belonged to a dinosaur, not a bird-like creature), and in the complete tail were kept from 15 to 25.

If not for Dr. Shin, we would hardly be able to admire the real feathers of a dinosaur, after all, a merchant who belonged to amber, unaware of what value it is hidden. He took the feathers for the remains of plants and planned to sell the amber as a raw material for making jewelry.

But in the view of the artist could look feathered dinosaur:
