Foldable eco-paper helmet for cyclists has received the award for John Dyson

Helmet made of paper, which can be used for recycling, has won the last international competition of students-scientists John Dyson (James Dyson Award 2016).

The author of the idea designer ISIS Schiffer said that incredibly happy to receive the award, but is convinced that the invention would be very difficult to sell. Paper eco-friendly helmet designed for people who take bikes on rent and do not have the ability to keep the usual bulky helmet with you.

The idea of creating a paper helmet which can be folded as a notebook, appeared in ISIS during travel.

"When I arrived in another city, used the services of bikes, but never had the opportunity to carry a helmet every time or buy it for 30 dollars", — says the designer.

So she decided to create a convenient transportation and cheap substitute for the usual attribute of the cyclist. It has a special mount that can protect from impact. Helmet covered with material that can withstand exposure to water for 4 hours.

The invention has been tested at Imperial College in London. The tests were successful: a helmet survived a different kind of shock. However, all who once saw him, surprised and doubt that he can really defend.

To further the modernization of its development, ISIS Shiffer received a grant in the amount of 30 000 euros. She now hopes to represent his helmet in new York, to begin offering American cyclists to test it for free.
