The Museum of treasures

"Green vault (Grunes Gewolbe" it. Grünes Gewölbe) is the richest collection of jewels in Europe. This is the former Treasury of the Saxon Korpusov and kings. Its unusual name Treasury received in the 16th century when it was equipped one of the premises of the Dresden Palace with a vaulted ceiling, painted in green color.


The Museum is a famous Treasury of the elector of Saxony and consists of more than 4000 unique works of art. In the XVI century part of the premises of the Dresden residence, which is now a treasure house, called "the secret storage of the green vaults" and were used for storing values, but the public were not empty. And in the first half of the XVIII century, elector Augustus the Strong built in 9 halls of residence the Museum as a universal Museum for exhibits of German jewelry artists. Later, the old halls of the "Green vault" were added another 8. Now visitors can get acquainted with the art exhibits.


During the war, the bombing severely damaged the Museum building. To preserve the heritage of culture, the surviving collection was sent to the vaults of the Ministry of Finance of the USSR. Critics have restored and preserved valuable exhibits. A new history of the Museum was marked by the return of wealth to the homeland in the city of Dresden in 1958. In 2006, the Museum of the Green vault has been completely renovated. Now is available to the customers not only the heritage of centuries, but also modern exhibits.


According to some critics "Grunes Gewolbe" is the richest collection of jewels in Europe.
