What are capers and what are the benefits?

Capers (capirci, capirci) is the flower buds of the caper Bush (caper plant), which grows in southern Europe and North Africa. The capers entered the cuisines of the Mediterranean more than 2,000 years ago and was an important article of export of the ancient Greeks.


The fresh bark of the caper, it is recommended to chew in diseases of the gums, toothache, and without any prior cooking. And the result is a chewed mass can be applied to wounds, it will cleanse them of pus and will ensure further rapid healing.


Since ancient times, all the parts of the caper plant are used as a spicy seasoning and a medicine. Modern medicine recognizes that fresh parts of the shrub are astringent, antiseptic and analgesic properties.


The buds of the caper plant are rich in fiber, proteins and fats; seeds contain 36% oil. Of minerals in the capers contain calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, and vitamins A, C, Riboflavin, Niacin. The only drawback capers – high in sodium. It can be corrected steeping capers before use in water, but preferably in olive oil.
