The special Rapporteur recalled that the obesity-associated cardiovascular disease and diabetes have taken this epidemic. However, the international community is giving these issues enough attention.

According to Schutter, the nutrition of the population should be regulated at the international level, as well as the issues associated with Smoking tobacco. He called for a global Convention that will make healthy diet food more popular and accessible.

In 2012, Olivier de Schutter called on several of the most important steps in the fight against obesity among the population: the introduction of a tax on unhealthy products, the introduction of strict rules in respect of food containing large amounts of saturated fat, sugar and salt, strict regulation of advertising of junk food, support local food production.
