Found a vaccine against malaria

Every year malaria claims the lives of 600,000 people. The vast majority of victims of malaria are children from poor countries of Africa. The malaria parasites have complicated device in comparison with many bacteria and viruses, so the vaccine for it was created so long. However, the British company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) was able to achieve his goal and created the drug to maintain against the parasite of malaria natural immunity.





According to the project Manager, RTS,S, a new drug almost halved the number of malaria among children aged 5 – 17 months. If the application is GSK received approval of regulators, the vaccine will be available for the masses next year.

The development of a vaccine against malaria took almost 30 years, and its effectiveness was not as high as originally anticipated. According to recent studies, after 1.5 years after vaccination, its effectiveness begins to decline. But even such efficiency enough that children can survive the most dangerous period.

Most of the major pharmaceutical companies avoid developing drugs for malaria, as they are too expensive and inefficient. However, RTS,S will sell only 5% of its actual cost.
