Solar panels often are placed on the roofs of cottages the owners of which strive to reduce the costs of electricity bills and increase environmental friendliness of their homes. However, many of them forget that over time the working surface of the panels accumulate dust, which can significantly reduce the amount of generated solar electricity.





Researchers from the University of Murdoch (Australia) evaluated the effect of dust on reducing the efficiency of solar panels over time and came to the conclusion that because of this factor the efficiency of the panels decreases over time by 8-12 percent. This indicates the importance of periodic cleaning.

We also found out that not dust is a key factor in the degradation of the panels. Decrease in their efficiency is mainly due to factors such as corrosion, delamination, and discoloration (the share of these factors together account for about 71-84% loss of efficiency).
