Honda has announced plans to market its five-seat hydrogen-powered Clarity Fuel Cell, and also revealed the price of the new model. The first production version of the car "Honda" fuel cell was demonstrated at the Tokyo motor show in November 2015 and even then it was clear that the sedan will be a direct competitor of Toyota Mirai 2016, the cost base modification which begins with 57 000 dollars.
Honda Clarity FCV with an electric drive, the power for which is supplied by hydrogen fuel cells. The features of the new power plant, Japanese engineers include its compactness: in size it is comparable to V6 engines and completely fits under the hood of the car. In this way not only reduces the weight machines, but bonuses in the form of additional space in the cabin, getting the passengers.
The more modest dimensions of the unit achieved by reducing the size of the plates of fuel cells: shape optimization allowed them to make thinner by 20%. In the end, the electrochemical generator in comparison with its prototype FCX Clarity was 33% less while increasing its energy intensity by 60%.
Optimized powertrain layout helped to create the spacious interior, which can comfortably accommodate five adults. Stock hydrogen fuel tank, enough to provide power reserve of 500 km and refueling "until" green new sedan from Honda will not take more than 5 minutes.
As regards the technical characteristics of the power unit, the motor power Clarity FCV is 177 HP and a capacity of the electrochemical generator 100 kW. Also on Board will be present vodorodnaya Li-ion battery. Additional kilometers will add a special aerodynamic body shape.
The concept of a hydrogen car from Honda also suggests using it as a power source for domestic use: the machine can serve as an additional generator of electricity for private homes, and will be a useful solution in cases of impossibility of use of centralized power. Also the car is equipped with led headlights, 18-inch wheels featuring an aerodynamic design and a multimedia system with possibility of integration with the main mobile OS.
In a press release the company reported that first to get the Clarity FCV sedan will be available to residents of California in the current year. The price of the car will be in the range of 60 000 dollars, and the monthly lease payment will be about $ 500. To expand the geography of its sales, Honda is planning with the simultaneous expansion of the network of hydrogen filling stations, the infrastructure of which is now still underdeveloped.
Some manufacturers already offer their customers free refills hydrogen fuel at its stations, the cost of which are included in the price of the car: does a crossover with Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell and Toyota with its Mirai. published
