A long road to organic certification

He thinks organic farmer about the structure of the organic legislation in Russia? Sergey Vodnik, co-owner "bio farm" Kuban (Krasnodar Krai), first performed at specialized organic conference in Moscow in October 2015 in the framework of "Golden autumn". And immediately — dimensional and thoroughly. Mr. Wolanyk outlined the main points of his report in his blog.

Our farm – "bio-farm of Kuban" for 2 years working as a certified manufacturer in the field of agriculture according to the European organic standard. Were certified in our fields and grow the products that are respectively provided with biometerology "Eurolitcar", production is carried out under control of the Italian certification body ICEA.

Certification is on the European organic standard was chosen deliberately as the most reputable and well-established system of organic certification. Of course, it is much easier and cheaper to be certified to one of the certification systems are today fairly numerous Russian unions, associations, etc., But the legitimacy of such certification in the absence of legislative regulation of organic production in the country is highly questionable and does not have any legal status.

Since that time we have already gained some experience in net agricultural production and sales of certified products in our local realities. Of course, in the complete lack of support for organic production on Federal and regional level, conduct organic production is extremely difficult. However, we managed to master the basic principles of organic farming.

Sergey Vodnik, the bio-farm of the Kuban: "...much easier and cheaper to be certified in one of the certification systems are today fairly numerous Russian unions... To date, the technology of organic production in vegetables and melons. From the position of experience gained, it can be noted that the European system of certification of organic production is quite logical and understandable, verified by years of practice. On the one hand, it is extremely hard to respect the basic principles of organic farming, on the other hand, the procedure of certification of control is completely transparent and objective.

However, as it turned out, the main problems arise not with the production, and the promotion and sale of organic products. Currently, the distribution channels of organic products are virtually absent. The few commercial structures, positioning itself in the segment of ecological products, for the most part filled pseudoelasticity, so-called "farmer" products, generally the products of traditional agricultural production, i.e. actually fake organic products. Of course, this is primarily due to the "legal vacuum" in the field of organic production and turnover, lack of domestic organic legislation.

We, as producers of true organic products, have a vested interest in restoring order in the market of organic products in Russia. Now extremely important initiative of the Russian legislators on formation of a national system of certification, they are important to producers and consumers of organic products and for the Russian economy as a whole. Russia has the highest potential of organic production in the world, because it has a huge Fund of untouched, fallow and just naimisaranya land suitable for pure natural agriculture. Strategically important to the creation of a system of national certification, most drawn together and harmonized to international system organic certification.

In this area, in my opinion, no need to "reinvent the wheel". Agriculture, by nature, very conservative and very pragmatic. Invented on paper the schema it does not take root in Russian conditions very often become a sham, which immediately begins to warm the hands of bureaucratic people. The European system of organic certification is a tested for centuries in the real practice of the agricultural system organic production. But you have to understand — the ordinary farmer will not be able to withstand the European certification and inspection. It's not even a price issue, and in communication with certificate authorities, filling out forms: you need a computer, you need to own, have a good electronic communication, preferably fluent in English, etc. Therefore need domestic regulatory framework for organic production, the Russian certification.

Agriculture... is very conservative and very pragmatic. Invented on paper the schema it does not take root in Russian conditions very often become a sham, which immediately begins to warm the hands of bureaucratic people.

At its introduction, in my opinion, need to be taken, including legislation on the recognition of the main international organic certificates along with domestic. This will allow not to lose the transitional conversion period domestic certification, because if we adopt a national standard that all farms will be in conversion for 2-3 years.

It will also serve as an important factor of mutual recognition and international integration of the Russian system of certification that will maximize the huge export potential of Russia in this segment of world agricultural production, which can be, in the future comparable with revenues from the export of our natural energy resources.
