Most animals communicate using smell, but because people have no sense of smell the same, experts believed that people long ago lost the ability to smell fear and other emotions. As it turned out, the feeling of fear, anxiety and aversion is the smell.

The research team collected samples of sweat from the armpits of 10 men, when they looked frightening scene from a horror movie "The Shining" or repulsive clips from the television series "Jackass" on channel MTV. The researchers then asked 36 women to pass the visual test, during which they are not aware of it, to smell of male sweat. When participants sniffed "smell of fear", their eyes widened, taking a frightened expression, while those who could smell aversion also appeared grimace of disgust. Women chosen because previous studies have shown that women are more sensitive to the smell of men than vice versa.

Research suggests that people pass at least some emotions through smell, and this ability can be useful in a situation where a person was in crowded places.
