Scientists studying acoustics, while working in the underground storage fuel fired from a pistol to hear how long will the reverb. As a result, the echo spread farther and farther and eventually completely broke the previous record.

The previous record was set in 1970 in the Mausoleum Hamilton, Lanarkshire. The new record time - one minute and 52 seconds, which is 15 seconds longer.





The test was conducted in a tunnel Inchdaun near Invergordon in Scotland. Oil tanks were dug into the hillside at the end of 1930 - so it was easier to hide them and thus secure from enemy attack the Nazis, who then re-passed. A tank for storage of 25 to 5 million gallons of fuel and has a wall thickness of 45 cm. The space in the tank is about two times longer than a football field - 9 meters wide and 13 meters in height 5.
