Kaplica Czaszek - Chapel of Skulls

Most common tomb of victims of the Silesian wars in 1740-1742 and in 1744-1745 years, as well as infectious diseases of the XVIII century, whose walls and ceiling are lined with 3 thousands of human skulls and bones. Buried under the floor of a few tens of thousands (20-30 ths.) Human remains.

The chapel was built in 1776 by Vaclav Tomaschek priest, whose chapel building, collecting the remains, disinfecting and soaking, and the burial of the remains, it took eight years ... The chapel is an exclusive image of the impermanence and fragility of human (a Czech priest called this place a sanctuary of silence) which met the remains of ancient families, friends and enemies. Once a year, on the night of 14 August 15 in the Chapel of Skulls is the Holy Mass for all those who have fallen asleep in it, and for all those who died because of the disease or were killed in accidents. Chapel of Skulls - is the only such facility in Poland and one of three in Europe.
