At the University of Tokyo have developed a fast runner bipedal robot with new balancing system

In the world, several companies are working to create robots with different number of limbs, which are planned to be able to become a reliable assistant in the person of some areas. Not so long ago in a Korean university KAIST will create caudate robot Raptor, able to run at speeds above 45 km / h.

Experts at the University of Tokyo have gone the other way, creating a small two-legged robot. The speed of the machine is 4, 2 kilometers per hour, making it one of the fastest two-legged robot in the world. When evaluating the speed is even taken into account the dimensions of the robot: only 14 centimeters in height.

As mentioned above, the researchers used a new system to maintain the balance of the robot. If a commonly used method & quot; point zero balance & quot ;, here, scientists have created a new system consisting of a high-speed camera and a stabilization of the motor . As a result - the robot does not stumble, and, according to scientists, is able to even perform somersaults.

It is worth noting that to achieve such a high speed in such a small size, the robot has to sort out very often, "feet": one second robot Achires (Actively Coordinated High-speed Image-processing Running Experiment System) makes six steps. Who runs the length of the robot - just 10 seconds, but scientists are working to increase this time.

Incidentally, the same team of robotics, led by Professor Ishikawa, has created yet another robot, the player in the "stone-paper-scissors." This robot always wins in humans due to the presence of the same high-speed camera and a special algorithm for determining the movements of human palm and fingers:
