43-year-old teacher of a school in Los Angeles Greg Schiller (Greg Schiller) was popular and respected students, but it did not save him from punishment, writes newspaper LA Times. School authorities found that some research projects of students look "dangerous" and are essentially weapons. Now students and parents began a public campaign to teachers returned to school. The appeal to the administration already collected several hundred signatures.
The incident that led to the ouster of Schiller, took place in February this year. Then at school Cortines School of Visual & Performing Arts held an exhibition of scientific projects.
One of the students fashioned pneumatic "gun" that pushes small objects with compressed air. Pupils underline that the device was not functioning as it was not connected to a compressed air cylinder. They also say that President Obama himself personally tested it much more powerful air guns at a scientific exhibition of the White House in 2012.
The author of another project (ninth grade in the photo above) made the prototype пушки Gauss , which shoot a "bullet", using the acceleration of the projectile traveling magnetic field. The coil is connected to a single AA battery.
When the student teacher suggested the idea of such a project, he advised him to use a more scientific approach to produce several variants devices and test them further analysis, say parents of schoolchildren, teachers, too.
However, school officials decided that air gun is very similar to the weapons. Schiller himself, although he had not even had time to see the reality of the device (only on the pictures) was immediately sent home. Both projects administration confiscated as "evidence." Schiller was suspended from the official wording of "supervision of the construction, research and manufacture of imitation weapons».
In defense of the teachers were not only students and parents, but also other teachers: "As far as we can tell, he was punished for teaching science" - said Warren Fletcher (Warren Fletcher), president of the Association of United Teachers Los Angeles. They emphasize that Schiller was a representative of the trade union at school and repeatedly clashed with the administration because of changes in the employment contracts of teachers.
