Fortress concentration camp Terezin, Czech Republic (21 pics + text)

The fortress was built in 1780-1790 years. The fortress was involved in the fighting during the Austro-Prussian War of 1866-1867 Since the end of the XIX century the fortress as a prison, which during the First World War was used as a POW camp. It was in Terezin died of tuberculosis Gavrilo Princip. During World War II Terezin was founded "exemplary ghetto", which was a little less than 140 000 people (of which 33,000 have died while in the ghetto). German authorities viewed Terezin as a temporary location for the Jews until the "final solution", so about 88,000 inhabitants Teresina were gradually deported to Auschwitz (Auschwitz) and other death camps [1], [2]. By the end of the war in the ghetto were 17,247 survivors.
Part of the fortress was separated from the ghetto and served as a prison by the Gestapo, through which during the war has passed about 90 000 people, of whom 2,600 died there. Terezin was liberated by Soviet troops May 9, 1945.
