Facebook is testing the water taxi to transport employees from San Francisco

Facebook followed suit Google and launched last week its ferry service to transfer employees from San Francisco to Redwood City, located a few kilometers from the company's headquarters in Menlo Park (CA), writes Mashable.

Employees will be transported on a catamaran, which seats 30 people and which will be Wi-Fi, coffee and snacks. Facebook plans to test this method of transportation for 90 days, after which the company will evaluate its effectiveness.

Google, which launched its steam in early January, last week completed a 30-day trial program and now assesses how water taxi suits him. The company used more spacious catamaran - 150 people, including deck space. The ferry was also Google Wi-Fi.

Launching its ferries are an attempt to technology companies from the San Francisco Bay to find alternative ways to transport employees to the office and back. Many companies, including Google, Facebook, Apple and Cisco, are using their buses to transport residents of San Francisco in the company's offices in the valley.

However, these buses have caused strife in recent months: the locals are protesting against them, considering them as a symbol of the growing economic inequality in San Francisco. Municipal Transportation Agency San Francisco even decided in late January that the city should charge a fee to companies that use the public bus stops to pick up people.
